In an era of constant availability and endless notifications, it's easy to lose control over how technology affects our lives. I invite you to join me in an experiment - a 5-day digital detox at the start of 2025. Let's see together if it's possible to live and work in IT while maintaining a healthy balance between online and offline worlds.
I love technology. It enables me to do fascinating things, learn and grow, all while sitting on my couch with my computer or phone. Unfortunately, there’s also a dark side to technology. It can take over one’s life and instead of being a tool, become handcuffs. I certainly don’t want my phone to be my boss, telling me what to do at any given moment through notifications.

Introducing: “New Year’s Technology Detox Plan”
This isn’t another guide telling you to “put down your phone and go for a run.” I’m not going to give you any advice or tips, but instead, I’m planning to do a technology detox myself and invite you to join me. What will come of it? I don’t know, let’s find out!
What I want to achieve:
- Start the new year with a bang
- Find new ways for a balanced approach to technology
- Improve the quality of my free time and rest
- Increase productivity through better recovery
My plan for the first week of 2025
From January 1st to 5th, I’ll conduct an experiment with a different approach to technology. For 5 days, I’ll test various methods of digital detox and share my experiences with you daily.
Here’s what I’m planning:
- One email daily describing my struggles and discoveries
- Honest reflections - both pros and cons
- Inspiration for your own digital detox experiments
- After a week and then after a month, a summary of what improved, what works, and what doesn’t
